Week 20 – wow. We had two workshops this week – polishing and brooch backs, both of which are really useful, but don’t provide much in the way of visuals. I did some beach collecting, especially mussels (which also drill) I’ll upload some pics of the aluminium piece, the beach collecting and a broken ceramic piece.
I started investigating making glaze from wood ash – Have prepared elm ash from the fire and am washing oak ash from the fishmongers.
I sorted out the mood board for the Identity project, a collection of drawings and artists’ source book.
I went to the Wendy Ramshaw exhibition at the Dovecot. I like the gate designs, the interesting use of materials and enjoyable fairy tale pieces.
Did a bit of aluminium dyeing and went to life class.
I had an inspiring phone call with Alistair MacCallum on mokume game. He was really helpful.
Spent quite some time in ceramics, the week’s workshop was on resin and I finished treating my first mokume gane piece.
More book binding – at DCA this time so have three further bindings and ideas for a couple of others. Felting and Flocking at DoJ, some very tedious preparation of a steel plate and fun with a diamond drill bit to pierce pau shell. Some more machine embroidery and beading and a couple of days in ceramics making some porcelain pieces.
