I’ve been trying out this bronze bowl around the house to see how it looks.
It’s a new design -slightly lighter and more open than the first bowl in this series.
It is made from recycled bronze with shell impressions, using a ceramic form that I created.
I finished the wee pewter bowls this morning and one is off to Germany with its new owner.
The wee silver bird earrings are off to new homes too.
I shall make up some more of these earrings for tomorrow, which use my silver bird charm and so are only available from my Open Studios (until Pittenweem, White Fox and London!)
The block of sieved, cleaned clay, from Hume in the Borders, has dried in the sun (and wind). I’m hammering bits off it, then grinding it with the pestle and mortar. The powdered clay is then sieved and mixed with beach sand. This mixture, when it is correctly made up and moistened, can be made into sand moulds.
Here are three two-part sand moulds drying in the sun ready to go to the Scottish Sculpture Workshop to pour, because they are too big for my wee charcoal furnace. I’m hoping to make cast bronze bowls for my three shows this summer.

I’ve started a new range of earrings using my silver charms. The top pair are pull-through silver chain earrings and the bottom pair are on a silver wire and oxidised metal hoop. Both will be at Cambo House today at the ENOS stall.
I poured these shells and wee fish yesterday. For the sand moulds I used the Borders sand and clay mixture, I made themoulds up last week so that they were good and dry when I poured in the molten metal.
This pic shows my pewter crucible with some of the scrap cut from the castings – the runners and risers for the metal to flow in and the air to escape out. These pieces will be available at ENOS and the technique is one that I’ll be teaching in November in Portugal.
And the final new charm bracelet, again with the Ethiopian silver cross and Saudi silver leaf, a calming Indian moonstone and a coloured glass stone. This one has a clear glass piece and a heart charm. So again, plenty of good luck charms on a sterling silver heart chain.

This one is a back-packer’s bracelet, five charms on a double silver chain – a tankard cast in silver, a 3d piece, a NZ beach pebble, lava bead and a wee copper form.
While I was holidaying in Greece at New Year I was applying to be part of the East Neuk Open Studios this year. I’m pleased to say I’ve been accepted and you may come and visit my fledgling studio in May and October to see what I’m up to.
